OFA Short Course 2013 Wrap-up

The trade show at OFA Short Course always brings out a crowd, but this year was particularly fun. Attendance was up, and the atmosphere was electric. John Hoffman and Magan Agee traveled to Columbus to work the Hoffman Nursery booth. They said many customers (and potential customers) stopped by and were excited about seeing the new catalog.

Several plants got lots of attention. John and Magan brought a large container of Carex oshimensis EverColor® ‘Everillo’, which really lit up the booth. It’s gold color and elegant, arching habit caught everyone’s eye. Another favorite was Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Burgundy Bunny’. With the super-cuteness of ‘Little Bunny’ and a mix of rich, burgundy foliage, it was bound to be popular.

Interestingly, people were also asking about Lemon Grass, which is an old standard. We sell a Lemon Grass that’s great for culinary uses—Cymbopogon citratus. The buzz was about repelling mosquitoes, which another species in that genus does pretty well. Cymbopogon nardus contains the essential oil, citronella, which is a well-known repellent. Other species in the genus may also keep mosquitoes away. We’ll have to check into that!

Short Course also offers time to see old friends and meet new ones, which we always enjoy. Thanks to everyone who spent time with us or came by the booth!
