Better Stock Plants = Better Liners
That principle guides our production. We start with high-quality stock to create healthy, consistent, well-rooted liners.
Back in August, we followed stock plants of Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Hameln’ on their way to becoming liners. Take a look at their journey…
Stock plants of Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Hameln’ started out in a hoop house. We allowed them to bloom to ensure consistency and quality.
Later in the season, the stock plants were ready to go into liner production.
Plants were removed from their containers and prepared for division.
Crowns were stacked and readied for trimming and division.
Crowns were trimmed and split…
...and cleaned and graded to ensure crop consistency.
Trays are color-coded by grade.
Meanwhile, empty liners went through the flat filler.
Trays come out the other end filled with media.
Potters put like-graded divisions into prepared trays.
Completed trays were placed on a conveyor to be loaded onto a trailer.
A production team member takes the liners to a cold frame, where they’ll be tended by our section growers.
The growth cycle starts again and will culminate in fully rooted, ready-to-ship liners. High quality ‘Hameln’ stock plants make the journey to high quality Hoffman Nursery liners.
