Sandhills CC Landscape Gardeners

Last month, Hoffman Nursery hosted a small group of students from Sandhills Community College’s Landscape Gardening Program. They visited the nursery as part of a multi-day field trip up the East Coast to the Philadelphia area.

Sandhills Community College, located in Southern Pines, North Carolina, serves a wide range of students from the region. The Landscape Gardening Curriculum emphasizes intensive, practical, hands-on training in applied horticulture, which is reinforced with classroom lectures. Every student participates in cooperative learning experiences both on campus and in paid internships off site. The students finish this program fully prepared for jobs in the landscaping industry.

John and Jill Hoffman walked with them around the nursery, touring production, propagation, shipping, and several greenhouses. The students’ curriculum includes greenhouse and nursery plant culture, so they were particularly interested in learning what we do here.

We always enjoy working with students from this program. Thank you to faculty members Dee Johnson, Jim Westmen, and Johanna Westmen for including us on their trip. We’ve put together a quick look at their visit.
