Dr. Ted Bilderback spent 37 years in horticulture at NC State University. During his tenure at NC State, Ted advised, mentored, and taught hundreds of students, volunteers, and green industry professionals. He served as Director of the JC Raulston Arboretum (JCRA) from 2009 to 2014. As JCRA Director, he led the way for development of the JCRA Children’s Program in 2011.
Ted retired from NC State and as director this month, but we’re thrilled to learn his legacy will continue. He and his wife, Linda, have established an endowment for the JC Raulston Arboretum’s Children’s Program.
The program is designed around:
- Teaching children about plants, gardening, and horticulture
- Stimulating children’s abilities to observe, analyze, and interact with plants
- Developing appreciation for the environment and the need for conservation
Hoffman Nursery and others in our industry are concerned about the decline in the number of horticulture students. We are involved in national and local efforts to increase interest in horticulture. This program is a tangible way to foster the next generation of horticulturists, researchers, and plant enthusiasts. We are proud to support it.
