Gold Fountains is named for its flowing, arching shape and bright color. Its narrow leaves look designer made with a green center surrounded by gold borders. Carex dolichostachya ‘Kaga Nishiki’ is useful as a ground cover in shade gardens in the South, yet it is hardy enough for Northern gardens to zone 5. If Gold Fountains is planted in the sun, be sure to see that it gets adequate moisture or it may not look its best. This species is native to Japan, where it can be found in mountainous woodlands. Gold Fountains was introduced to the US by Barry Yinger, who obtained it from Japanese plantsman Kenji Watanabe at Gotemba Nursery.
