Carex plantaginea adds a fresh element to your shade mix. One of our most beautiful native sedges, with unique one-inch wide, dimpled, green leaves make it the shade plant that folks are always looking for. Showy flowering spikes rise above the foliage; will reseed to form colonies. In early spring, foot-high spikes topped with delicate purple blooms appear to float above the 8-12 inch foliage. Carex plantaginea is a great complement to other shade and woodland plants that also thrive in high-organic, moist soil. Seersucker Sedge is found from Minnesota east to New England and down the Appalachians to Georgia in rich, moist forests, on slopes along streams or the edges of moist depressions, and southward in mountain gorges.
