Zebra Grass’s deep green foliage is marked by yellow horizontal bands in no detectable pattern. Look closely and you may notice some leaves sport more stripes than others. In mid-September, copper-colored flowers appear on the end of tall stalks. This colorful plant grows in an arching shape, in contrast to the more erect Porcupine Grass, Miscanthus sinensis ‘Strictus’, which grows in an upright column. Zebra Grass takes up space in the garden at seven feet tall, eight with blooms, so be sure to allow it room to grow. For best growth, plant Miscanthus sinensis ‘Zebrinus’ full sun and cut back in early spring before new growth appears.
