This stunning Switchgrass stands out in the landscape with its striking physical attributes: blue, three-quarter-inch-wide leaves and billowy pink-colored, seed heads. It is a native cultivar that makes an excellent substitution for large exotic ornamental grasses such as those in the Miscanthus genus. Switchgrasses are known for being drought tolerant and undemanding about soil. They also provide food and shelter for birds and wildlife. In the landscape, they need to be cut back in spring before new growth appears. Panicum virgatum ‘Dallas Blues’ was discovered by Ken and Linda Smith of Smith’s Garden, Dayton, OH.
