DISCONTINUED - This switchgrass has perhaps the bluest foliage of all of the grasses in the Panicum genus. We like to say that Panicum virgatum ‘Prairie Sky’ takes on the hues of the Carolina sky. Blue Switchgrass does not like rich soil, preferring areas with inhospitable, even sandy soil. Its shape is somewhat loose and may become droopy if over fertilized or over watered, so be sure to plant it in full sun and poor soil and keep it dry once established. Because of its coloring, it makes a stunning specimen plant. Plant in masses for a bold look, or use it as a centerpiece in decorative urns. Panicum virgatum ‘Prairie Sky’ made its way to the horticultural world after Roger Gettig’s sharp eyes spied this unusual-foliaged grass growing along a roadside in central Wisconsin.
