This Switchgrass has been charming visitors in our garden for years. Its origins are uncertain, but the overall appearance is one of the best we’ve seen in a Switchgrass. So, we introduced Panicum virgatum ‘Summer Sunrise’ to the trade. This beauty produces a dense cloud of soft pink seed heads that rise just above the foliage. The inflorescences catch the morning and afternoon light and echo the colors of a summer sunrise. Wide, bluish leaves form an upright, compact habit. Fall color is pinkish gold. ‘Summer Sunrise’ has all the versatility and adaptability you love in Switchgrass, and its manageable height and upright habit fit a range of landscape applications.
